Rice Crispy Treats Three Ways

Jacqueline O.

If you know me at all, you know I'm not much of a cook. I do my best to make dinner during the week, but am relieved to hand the reins over to my husband during the weekends. I do, however, enjoy dabbling in a bit of dessert making when the mood strikes me. I love rice crispy treats when I have a sweets craving, but want to make something simple. I always end up making the super simple recipe, which I love, but I thought it would be fun to try out some more "grown up" variations. Here's what I came up with.

Orange Scented Olive Oil Cake with Chocolate Ganache topped with Fleur de Sel

Skyler E.

I think cupcakes are cute, but I don’t want to eat them.

I’m sure that wedding cake was expensive, but I’ll probably get someone else to eat my slice when you’re not looking.

I’ve just never liked cake all that much. Growing up, cakes were just scarine pastel, frosting rose covered sugar bombs that haunted my dreams. There'd be no actual discernible flavor of any kind, just sweet springy nothingness. And dry. So dryyyyyy.

Little Green, Have a Happy Ending

Dress: Dillards Bag, Belt & Shoes: Thrifted Earrings: F21

This has been my favorite little spring/summer dress for the past two years, but it's somehow never made it on the blog. I love how comfortable and versatile it is. As a bonus, it has the most adorable little dandelion print embroidered on it. I have a pretty fun weekend ahead of me. Nick and I are going to a 20s party on Saturday night. I'm pretty excited about turning this mop into a faux bob, layering on the heavy eye make-up and living the Gatsby lifestyle for a night. What are you doing this weekend?

tomorrow is officially the first day of summer! i have a pretty fun weekend ahead of me. today, i get to spend my monthly friday with my bestie. these days always include hunting for amazing estate sales, a cocktail by the pool and plenty of girl talk. it's one of the days each month that i look forward to the most! i'm so thankful that i get to spend as much time with her as i do. she used to live about and hour and a half away in prescott. she and her husband moved down to phoenix a couple of years ago. we got to go from seeing each other a handful of times a year, to having a standing play date once a month! i'm so thankful to have her so close now. hooray for best friends!

this week was chalk full of lots of work commitments that kept me busy late into the evening, coupled with several days of not feeling good. i was so happy to finally have a full weekend of rest to look forward to. my husband and i were both a little under the weather, and have pretty much slept out entire weekend away. i think a little r&r is exactly what you need to reset and recharge, don't you think? how was your weekend?

i used to be one of those people who would only buy their clothes brand new. it was just the way i was raised and all i knew. it wasn't until i was married and on a budget that i began to explore the option of buying second hand. my MIL is an avid thrift store shopper, and she was kind enough to take me along with  her for the first time. after taking home a shopping cart full of adorable clothes for about $60, i was hooked. i love the thrill of walking into a store not knowing what treasures i may find. what do you think, would you give thrift shopping a try?

i bought this beauty at a yard sale a couple months ago. yup, you heard me right, yard sale. i usually don't even bother looking at clothing at yard sales because i never expect to find anything worthwhile. i'm usually just interested in finding treasures for my home. but then i found this. i love it, because it's vintage and flowy and of course because of the pockets. my immediate thought was to pair it with some bright red shoes, but them i remembered this orange pair i've had for years which i hardly wear. they're not the most comfortable shoes i own, but i think they go perfectly with the dress. what about you? have you ever found clothing at a yard sale you can't live without?

after all this time of hiding in the confines of the back yard, i don't want to go back! i think i love taking photos in the desert. and i'll do it as long as i can (i.e. until it hits 120 degrees).
i have a funny story about this dress. i borrowed it from my best friend about a year ago, then she decided it suited me better than it did her, and just told me to keep it. i put it on one day a couple months ago and was looking in the mirror, and i thought to myself, "this dress would be so much cuter with pockets". then i put my hands where i thought the pockets should be, and they slid into a pocket! i guess dreams really do come true ;)

we took these about 2 months ago on a cold rainy day, and then i completely forgot about them.  around this time, i only wanted to wear boots, jeans and cozy sweaters. that cold seems like a distant memory now. the last few weeks the temperature has been steadily climbing, so much so that i had to run my a/c on my drive home yesterday! sending warm thoughts to those of you in colder climates.
