Lessons in Sewing

Sweater: Target
Dress: Target
Shoes: Steve Madden
Dog: Teddy :)

Until very recently, I didn't know how to sew. I never really cared about learning until after I got married and buttons and hems started to fall off. I had no idea where to even begin when I had a needle and thread in my hands, so I started stocking up on safety pins. Simple solution, but not very pretty. This worked until my husband finally took a needle and thread and showed me how to sew a button back on. I was surprised how easy this was, and I felt guilty for not knowing how to do this simple task. Along with this, I also had the growing desire to learn to sew my own clothing. Fortunately, my lovely mom in law has a sewing machine and some sewing skills she was gracious enough to share with me :). I brought over a stack of items I haven't been able to wear in ages. I didn't think we'd be able to get to all of them in one day, but we did! I learned to sew buttons, hems, and was even able to shorted a top that was a bit too long. I was super happy with how it all turned out. I hope to soon take my next step into making an item of clothing!

Happy Friday, Lovelies!

  4. Sewing is the best! I swear, half the things I buy now don't fit me, but it's so easy to alter if you just know the basics! Hooray for mothers that let us pick their brains. :)
