I have to admit, this little blogging vacation has been just what I needed. To start with, I didn't think about my blog for about two weeks after my last post. I just lived. It was kind of a relief to just go about my life with out the "stress" of having to get in an outfit post, or struggling to just post anything so there wouldn't just be radio silence. The mister and I took a little trip to So-Cal this past weekend. We spent the entire weekend outdoors - on the beach, hiking, just enjoying all the beauty around us. I feel like I've come back refreshed and just brimming with new ideas for this space. I have some stuff I'm working on, and I don't want to pull the trigger too soon, so it will still be a few weeks till I'm back to my regular blogging schedule. Thank you all for your kind words and support! I don't know what I'd do without you!

Again, thank you to those of you who took the survey. I have a lot to think about as well as develop. I've decided to take a brief blogging hiatus in order to accomplish this. To be honest, I've been feeling a bit burned out as well as a little bored with this space. I have some new things I want to try, and I'm so glad you are all on board! I hope you'll be patient with me while I figure out the next step, and feel free to still follow along on Instagram if you miss this goofy mug ;)

Here's the look I put together for the 20s party we went to last weekend. I was really proud of myself for not spending any money on it, except for about $6 for the ribbon. I love theme parties, but to be honest, I dread the money I'm bound to spend on an outfit I will most likely not wear again. I was happy I was able to pull everything from my own closet, except for the gorgeous beaded bag, which I borrowed from a friend. All in all, I think this look was a success :)
A Little Help From My Friends
If you have some time, I would really appreciate it if you took a few minutes to fill out a short reader survey. I would love your thoughts in order to put out more content you enjoy, and possibly introduce some new features, as well as get to know you all a little better. The surveys are completely anonymous and the information will not be shared. Again, thank you so much for your participation if you choose to do so!

Little Green, Have a Happy Ending
Dress: Dillards Bag, Belt & Shoes: Thrifted Earrings: F21
This has been my favorite little spring/summer dress for the past two years, but it's somehow never made it on the blog. I love how comfortable and versatile it is. As a bonus, it has the most adorable little dandelion print embroidered on it. I have a pretty fun weekend ahead of me. Nick and I are going to a 20s party on Saturday night. I'm pretty excited about turning this mop into a faux bob, layering on the heavy eye make-up and living the Gatsby lifestyle for a night. What are you doing this weekend?
Crushing On | 90s Style
As a kid growing up in the 90s, I've gone through pretty much every terrible style phase you could go through. I was in middle school from about '97-'99. This was about the time it was very cool to wear white eyeliner with green mascara (oh, yes I did) and long psychedelic dresses with sneakers (again, guilty). I was little too young to participate in the grunge era of the early 90s. Although I was a fan of the music (could never get into that boy band stuff) and an avid fan of My So-Called life after it was already canceled, I never got the chance to wear my flannel with Doc Martins and sing along to the haunting lyrics of Kurt Cobain when it was current. That's why I'm a little excited that the 90s has returned to fashion. I'm looking forward to the cooler fall days when I can break out the flannel listen to my Gin Blossoms station and pretend for a moment that times are simpler again.
(Brooke, those Birks were added just for you. I still think they're the ugliest shoe ever ;)
Get Silly With It
For those of you who don't know me in real life (or don't know me well enough), I'm a huge dork. I can be really awkward and shy when I don't know you. But, when I do get to know you and I'm comfortable showing you the real me, you may find yourself wanting to reconsider our friendship ;) Seriously, I'm not sure how I tricked someone so cool into marrying me. Every time I take a picture, I can't help but get a little silly with it (before I take the real one that makes me look normal). Maybe I'm feeling a little giddy because the weekend is so close or maybe it's because we spend so much time as bloggers trying to look perfect, but I thought it would be fun to share another part of me with silly pics that don't make it onto instagram or this blog. Disclaimer: many of these are very unflattering and very, very silly. Enjoy.

Note to self: don't lean up against a dirty fence and not expect to get dirt all over your clothes. I didn't notice the smudge till I was editing these photos. Just awesome :) It's been kind of a bummer of a week around here. It's been hotter than ever with excessive heat warnings. We spent a total of about five minutes snapping these before running back to the car for relief!
Here's a few of my favorite blog posts from the week. Enjoy!
I seriously need Maggie's adorable tank top in my life!
Carolyn's sweatshirt dress is such a beautiful basic you can style so many ways. Love how she did a throw back to the 90s
Blair just making me love the LWD even more
I think I may be trying this trick Lauren shared on her blog this weekend

Crushing On | Summer Sandals
1| the stacked heel at madewell 2| the espadrille at one stop plus 3| the slide at shopbop 4| the wedge at shoe mint
During these hot summer months i usually gravitate towards dresses (duh!) and i'm always reaching for a cute sandal to go with it. I have a few go to pairs, but besides the wedge, I currently don't have any of the above styles in my closet. This needs to be fixed quickly! These are a few styles that I'm currently craving. I think each one of them would be so cute paired with a white summer dress (my other new obsession), don't you?
Sunshine Favorites
There are so many amazing blogs out there that I love and read every day. I thought today it would be fun to share the posts from the week that I'm crushing on.

Ladylike Sunday

I've been a little behind on taking outfit photos lately. Not because I haven't had the time. It's just a little hard for me to want to stand outside in 112 degree weather for any amount of time other than the time it takes me to run from the air conditioning inside to the air conditioning in my car. Today was still hot, but it's monsoon season. This means it's still blazing hot during the day, but closer to sunset, a storm will usually start to come in. That is the only time it is even slightly bearable to stand outside and smile for a camera. With that said, I apologize in advance if my outfits are a little fewer and further in between until fall. I hope you all had a great weekend! I was working on my vlog a little today, and I won't lie, it's a very awkward seeing yourself on video. There are a lot of um's an uh's and nervous laughter. It's gonna be great ;)

Q&A
Lately I've been toying with the idea of doing a short video blog. So, I've been racking my brain trying to come up with an idea for a video. I've always wanted to put together a FAQ page on the blog, so I thought it would be fun to combine the two. That means that you get to play along! I would love it if you would send in any questions you may have for me through email (thesunshinedistrict@gmail.com) or in the comments below. Make sure to leave your name and blog info, and I'll be sure to mention you in the video!

Life has been so, so good lately! The summer is flying by, we have plans to go to San Diego in a couple weeks, and I just can't get enough of eating good food and hanging out with my favorite people. Oh, ya, and working out. I'm starting to reach some fitness goals, and I'm so pumped about it. How's your summer so far?
